This session is led by Jop van Bennekom, Editor, Fantastic Man.

Folio Forum is a series of free Thursday evening events, where established and emerging artists/photographers discuss their work with a specialist in a public environment. All are welcome to attend, take part in the discussion and see new and emerging bodies of work.

For those showing their work, these sessions provide a chance to experience speaking about their work in public, to articulate concerns, aims and plans for their photography and to ask opinions in an open and honest environment.

Feedback from the attending audience is a vital part of the events, which are free to attend, with no booking required for audience members.

Format of the sessions

Each Folio Forum is led by a specially chosen artist, photographer, curator or other professional. Each is tailored to explore a particular area, for instance photojournalism, participatory and educational arts, documentary, or studio-based art practice.

Three or four individuals are chosen whose work relates either thematically or creatively to the background of the professional leading the session and to the other participants.

Evening sessions begin at 18.30 and end at 20.00 giving all photographers 15 minutes to present their work and 15 minutes to engage in a discussion with the session leader and attending public. Folio Forums take place 16 - 18 Ramillies Street.

Submission Process

These sessions are great for those who do not have access to regular feedback and feel they would benefit from some specialist and peer-led critique of their work.

Sessions are not for showcasing portfolios, but aim to explore particular theoretical issues pertinent to the processes of individual artists/photographers. Work will be shown in either slide or digital projection for the session.

To apply for the Folio Forum please send up to 8 email-able images (no larger than 72 dpi), include your name, contact details, a short c.v. or description of your work (not obligatory) and 100 - 150 words on why you would like to participate.

We regret that we cannot reply individually to each application. If selected you will be informed at least two weeks in advance of the event, if you have not heard by then please assume you have not been successful in this case. Submissions are limited to two, per person, per annum.
